Every morning a progression of the local surfers ranging in age up to 70 years of age visit the beach and check out the waves. Work at many businesses will often grind to a standstill if a good swell is operating and the call of the waves take precedence over the need to pay off the mortgage. The Anna Bay Surf School operates from the Kiosk at One Mile Beach as the gradual shelving beach and smooth sands and protected position make it ideal for learners and those who want to update their skills. Click here to check out your options. ![]() ![]() Port Stephens is Australia’s largest Dolphin Haven with some 160 dolphins enjoying the pristine clear waters of the harbour whilst they amuse visitors from all over the world with their antics in the bow waves of the many dolphin and whale watching vessels that ply their trade in and out of the Port. During the May to November months of each year visitors get the opportunity to view the annual migration of whales to and from their breeding grounds. The opportunity to watch humpback whales breach is an opportunity not to be missed. ![]() ![]() The Stockton Coastal Desert Habitat is one of the unique areas of Auatralia with dunes stretching from Newcastle to Birubi Point at Anna Bay just 6 kms from One Mile Beach. An experience not to be missed is a sand board ride down a 50 foot high dune or a quad bike ride safari. 4 WD tours are great entertainment as well as giving visitors the opportunity to explore Tin City (where Mad Max was filmed) and Australia’s largest Shipwreck Site.

The various seafood restaurants at Nelson Bay feature great views across the d’alboros Marina to the open waters of Port Stephens. Salamander Shores Resort is hard to beat with its traditional beachside eating. While Shoal Bay with the most stunning view of all to the heads features casual dining in a modern setting from the Game Fishing Club and the Shoal Bay Resort and Spa. For something different visitors should travel to Wonganella winery on the Nelson Bay Road at Bob’s Farm for a luncheon. The menu encompasses a wide range of tastes all prepared with modern style and panache. The great views from the restaurant over lemon Tree Passage towards the Broken Back ridge of Polkobin have a dream like quality that has to be seen to be appreciated. The wines are good as well.

9 hole par 3 course in Anna Bay or the Palms at Bob's Farm. A 20 minute
trip to Medowie will put you on the Pat Rafter course of Pacific Dunes.

course for free at any time during your stay. There is so much to do the visitor needs to visit our park reception or the Visitor Information Centre to pick up details of golf, horse riding kayaking, tobogganing, touring drives and also the places to shop til you drop. |
